Bill Schenck Obituary
William “Bill” Ziegler Schenck, 79, of Springfield, VA passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2025. He was the son of Mary Ziegler Schenck and Alfred Kenneth Schenck of Vero Beach, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Lynn Christopher. He is survived by his cousins Margaret Hendricks (Doug) of Midlothian, VA and Edward Brenner (Cindy) of Chesterfield, VA. Bill served in the Peace Corps with his former wife Judith Schenck and applied his undergraduate and graduate degrees in library science from Johns Hopkins and UNC while working at the Yale Beinicke Rare Book Library, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, and the University of Oregon. Bill also served as the Collections Policy Officer at the Library of Congress from 1991-2000 , ensuring that the Library’s world-class collections reflected all points of view, and captured relevant material in all formats, print, multimedia, and digital. Bill loved to travel and had a passion for reading books on every subject. He enjoyed following local, national, and international politics as well as the Washington area sports teams and the Arsenal football team. He was an active member of the Village Church at Greenspring where he served on the church council and chaired the Communications Committee. He was lovingly cared for by his friend and aide, Raymond Vamboi and his many local friends and staff at Greenspring in Springfield, VA. Burial services will be in Butler, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
Before moving to Greenspring, Bill was a long-time member of St. John’s and served in many roles during his time here.
